5 Tips to Stay Healthy During a Holiday Weekend

Oh yes, how we all love a fun extended holiday weekend! It’s a needed break that we all look forward to. Eating yummy foods, spending time with the fam, time on the water, the every-hour is happy-hour…lol. It does become quite the time. However, it is important to not fall off your bandwagon of healthy choices. Yes, balance is good here and there, but you should always do 80/20. This means eating nutritious foods 80 percent of the time and having a serving of your favorite treat with the other 20 percent. It's a good way to keep those healthy habits of yours.

Here are the 5 tips I follow when enjoying a Holiday Weekend (usually in the Summertime).

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially if you’re spending time outdoors in the heat. This will help prevent dehydration and keep you feeling energized.

Choose Healthy Foods

While it’s tempting to indulge in holiday treats, try to balance your plate with fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins. Choose grilled options instead of fried, and watch portions to avoid overeating.

Stay Active

Incorporate physical activities into your holiday plans. Whether it’s a game of frisbee, a walk on the beach, or a swim, staying active will help you feel better and maintain your fitness routine.

Protect Your Skin

Apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and reapply every two hours, especially if swimming or sweating. Wear hats and sunglasses to protect your face and eyes from harmful UV rays.

Moderate Alcohol Consumption

If you choose to drink, do so in moderation. Alcohol can dehydrate you and lower your inhibitions, leading to unhealthy choices. Alternate alcoholic drinks with water to stay hydrated and limit your intake.

Lastly, take time with your family and/or friends. Slow down your routine or schedule, and spend time with those you love, because it is the fulfillment of love from relationships that will truly fill your heart and radiate your mind. Leaving you feel like you had an enjoyable and successful holiday weekend.
